Talisman Wines

Talisman Wines is a picturesque family-owned winery nestled in the Ferguson Valley of Western Australia's Geographe Wine Region. This hidden gem offers wine enthusiasts a unique and enchanting experience amidst stunning natural surroundings.

Location and Setting

Talisman Wines is situated off Weetman Road in Wellington Mill, Western Australia. The 210-acre property boasts a captivating landscape of fields, vineyards, bush, and natural waterways. Set just 40 kilometers from the Indian Ocean and surrounded by pine forest, the vineyard enjoys a unique microclimate that contributes to the exceptional quality of its wines.

The cellar door is perched on the edge of a tranquil dam, offering visitors breathtaking views of undisturbed bushland and the cascading vineyard. This pristine setting exemplifies the diverse terroir and exceptional quality found in the Ferguson Valley.

History and Family Legacy

The Talisman story began in 1999 when Kim and Jenny Robinson started producing fruit for award-winning wineries. In 2009, they established their own label, marking the birth of Talisman Wines. Today, the winery is a true family affair, with Kim still tending to the vines alongside his daughter Anita Robinson, who serves as the vineyard's vigneron and represents the second generation of Talisman.

Vineyard and Varieties

Talisman's vineyard stretches across undulating hill faces, embraced by the Wellington National Park. The property features a diverse range of grape varieties, including:

  • Chardonnay

  • Riesling

  • Zinfandel

  • Merlot

  • Shiraz

  • Cabernet

  • Malbec

  • Sauvignon Blanc

The vineyard's unique geography creates a series of microclimates, each influencing the characteristics of the grapes grown there. Notably, Talisman is home to one of the most northern Riesling blocks in Western Australia, benefiting from the cooling effects of the forest and sea breezes.

Winemaking Philosophy

Under the guidance of Head Winemaker Peter Stanlake, Talisman crafts elegant, aromatic, and delicate wines that showcase the terroir of the Ferguson Valley. Stanlake's approach emphasizes minimal intervention and judicious use of oak, allowing the fruit to express its true character. His extensive knowledge of oak aging, developed over years in the industry, is particularly evident in the finishing of Talisman's traditional varieties.

Wine Tasting Experience

Visitors to Talisman Wines can enjoy a memorable tasting experience at the cellar door, which is open on weekends from 11 am to 4 pm. Wine enthusiasts can sample a range of Talisman's award-winning wines while taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Some of the standout wines to look for during your visit include:

  • The much-loved Zinfandel, known for its rich, structured palate and complex array of flavors

  • The award-winning "Gabrielle" Chardonnay, which has garnered numerous accolades

  • The exceptional Riesling, benefiting from its unique northern location in the vineyard
