Moojelup Farm Wines
Moojelup Farm Wines is a boutique winery nestled in the picturesque Geographe wine region of Western Australia, offering wine enthusiasts a unique blend of history, tradition, and exceptional wines. Located just 8 kilometers north of Harvey at the foothills of the Darling Scarp, this charming vineyard provides visitors with a slice of farming history and a taste of premium wines.
History and Heritage
Moojelup Farm has a rich history dating back to the 1880s when it was established by John Thompson Logue. The property, which spans 40 hectares, was initially used for beef cattle, sheep, and dairy farming. The name "Moojelup" is derived from the Nyoongar word "Mooja," which is the Aboriginal name for the famous Western Australian Christmas tree.
In the 1990s, owners Stephanie and Simon Holthouse transformed the farm into a boutique winery, with the first vintage released in 2000. The Holthouse family has owned the property for more than half of its history, bringing a deep connection to the land and a commitment to producing high-quality wines.
Vineyard and Terroir
Moojelup Farm boasts 3.5 hectares of hand-tended vines, benefiting from the region's unique combination of gravel loam soils, cool winters, and warm dry summers. This terroir is particularly well-suited for producing wines with great depth in fruit character, color, and intensity.
The vineyard specializes in warm climate varieties, focusing on:
Shiraz
Cabernet Sauvignon
Semillon
Vermentino
