History and Philosophy
Established in 1996 by Scott Ireland and Jen Lilburn, Provenance Wines has stayed true to its founding principle: crafting exceptional wines that showcase the unique characteristics of special vineyards. The name "Provenance" reflects this commitment to highlighting the source and origin of their grapes.
In 2016, longtime associate winemaker Sam Vogel joined as a partner, and as of July 2024, he became the sole owner of the winery. This transition ensures continuity in the winery's vision and quality standards.
Vineyards and Winemaking
Provenance sources grapes from eight carefully selected vineyards across the Geelong, Ballarat, and Henty regions of Victoria. This diverse range of terroirs allows the winery to produce wines that truly reflect their unique origins. The winery manages approximately 16.19 hectares (40 acres) of vines, with an average annual production of 120 tonnes.
Under the guidance of winemakers Scott Ireland and Sam Vogel, along with viticulturist Blake Tahapehi, Provenance is working towards organic certification for its vineyards. The winery also prides itself on using no animal products in the winemaking process, making their wines suitable for vegan consumers.
